Amazon CodeWhisperer is an AI-powered code generation and security platform designed to accelerate software development. The platform is part of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and offers a range of features that make coding faster, more secure, and more efficient. CodeWhisperer is trained on billions of lines of code and can generate code suggestions ranging from snippets to full functions in real time based on your comments and existing code.

The platform offers unlimited code suggestions and reference tracking for individual users. It also provides 50 security scans per user per month, allowing you to detect hard-to-find vulnerabilities and get code suggestions to remediate them immediately. CodeWhisperer aligns to best practices for tackling security vulnerabilities, such as those outlined by the Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP).

One of the standout features is its compatibility with 15 programming languages, including Python, Java, and JavaScript. It also integrates with various integrated development environments (IDEs), such as VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, AWS Cloud9, AWS Lambda console, JupyterLab, and Amazon SageMaker Studio. You can also customize CodeWhisperer to generate more relevant recommendations by making it aware of your internal libraries, APIs, packages, classes, and methods.

During its preview, Amazon ran a productivity challenge where participants who used Amazon CodeWhisperer were 27% more likely to complete tasks successfully and did so an average of 57% faster than those who did not use CodeWhisperer. The platform is particularly useful for improving developer productivity, including for developer onboarding, writing boilerplate code, using unfamiliar languages, and detecting security vulnerabilities.
