CBETA canon reader with AI translations
RuShiWoWen
RuShiWoWen (如是我闻, "Thus I Have Heard") is a free public reading environment for the CBETA Chinese Buddhist canon. It brings the original Chinese scriptures together with optional modern Chinese, English, and Japanese reading layers generated with AI assistance, so readers can study a passage in the language they are most comfortable with while keeping the classical text as the primary source.
The platform provides full-text search across more than 4,500 scriptures, chapter-level navigation, paragraph-level comparison, and a reading interface designed for long-form study on both desktop and mobile. Every AI translation is clearly labelled as a non-authoritative study aid, and readers can switch layers on or off at any time.
RuShiWoWen is aimed at students of Buddhism, translators, scholars, and general readers who want an accessible entry point into Chinese Buddhist literature without paying for a subscription or creating an account. The site is free to read, requires no login for its core functionality, and publishes an llms.txt file so AI agents and researchers can understand the collection. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with CBETA.
